John R. “Jack” Callahan

1885216_profile_picJohn R. “Jack” Callahan, age 89, of Franklin PA, formerly of Leeper, passed away on November 30, 2016 at Oakwood Heights Nursing Home in Oil City.

He fought a courageous battle for 6 weeks to try and overcome complications from a bad fall and Parkinson’s disease.

Jack was born on DecemberJohn 11, 1926 in Akron, OH, the son of the late Thomas and Melda (Flick) Callahan. He served as a member of the United States Navy during World War II.

He is deeply missed by his wife, Lois A (Tingley) Callahan, who he married at age 35 on August 13, 1962. They celebrated 54 years of marriage this year.

Jack and Lois moved from Leeper to Laurel Terrace in 2013 when his Parkinson’s disease made it difficult getting on and off his farm tractor. Jack and Lois had no children of their own, so moved to be nearer their cousins, Patrick and Marge McFetridge. They have been a great help and comfort to them.

He is also survived by his nephew, Thomas V. Callahan and wife Gloria, and their sons Thomas Callahan and wife Cynthia and their daughters Cora and Shauna, of Powathan, VA, Christopher Callahan of Henrico, VA, and David Callahan and wife Angelica and sons Logan and Thomas of Portsmouth, VA.

Additionally, he is survived by his nephew Dennis J. Callahan and his wife Rita and son Brian and Brian’s son Kyle of Louisville, KY; along with numerous cousins from the Callahan and Flick sides of the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Melda (Flick) Callahan and his oldest brother, Thomas W. Callahan and wife Mildred.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarion. As per Jack’s wishes, there will be no visitation or public services. Interment will be in the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville.
