Thumbnail-36Dennis “Denny” Wayne Himes, 81, of Big Run, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on December 8th.

Denny was born on July 2, 1935, to the late Leroy and Neta M. Miller Himes. On August 10, 1957, Dennis married Judith Anne Whelpley, who survives. He was a 1953 graduate of Brockway High School.

Denny served in the Army reserves during the Berlin Crisis. Denny worked as an installer and repairman for Verizon (formerly Bell Telephone Co.) from 1953 until he retired in 1985, after working 42 years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney, where he was very actively involved. He was a 50 year member of the John W. Jenks Lodge 534 F. & A.M. and a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers. Denny enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed being outside and spending time in his garden. He especially loved spending time with his family and spent many hours attending his grandchildren’s activities.

In addition to his wife, Judy, he is survived by his daughter, Beth Anne Fisher, of Emlenton, PA, and his son, Scott D. Himes, and his wife, Diane, of Jeannette, PA. He is additionally survived by his grandchildren, Emily Anne Stump of Indianapolis, IN, Rebecca Jo Stump, and her Fiance, Blaine Fletcher, of Big Run, Laura Nicole Stump of Wexford, and Kenneth Scott Himes of Jeannette. He is survived by his brother, Ernest Leroy Himes, and his wife, Vivian, of Bradford. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bernadine, and his brother, Darrell.

Friends and family will be received at Deeley Funeral Home, in Punxsutawney, PA, on Sunday, December 11th, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12th, at the First United Methodist Church, in Punxsutawney. Funeral services for Denny will be held at the Church following visitation, with Pastor Paul Ritchey officiating. Internment will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Brockway.

The Family suggests the memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church in Punxutawney, 301 W Mahoning St, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
