Eugene Earl Smith, Sr.

Smith PhotoEugene Earl Smith, Sr., of Shippenville, died on December 8, 2016 at the Clarion Hospital following a brief illness. He was 92 years of age.

Born on August 30, 1924 in Strattanville, he was the son of the late Curtt C. and Lillian (Rex) Smith.

On March 31, 1946, he married the former Lucille Kunselman. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2011. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. He was employed by McDowell Plumbing and Heating, then was the owner of Smith Pennzoil, and was also a rural carrier for the United States Postal Service. After he retired, he worked for Wolf’s Auto, and he enjoyed working as a ranger at Clarion Oaks Golf Club.

He was a member of the Manor United Methodist Church. Also, he was a member of the Lion’s Club, the New Castle Masonic Lodge and the Zem Zem Shriners, and the Clarion Oaks Golf Club.

Gene is survived by his children, Butch Smith and wife Lori, of Clarion, Richard Smith and fiancé Kayce Mrozek, of Shippenville, Linda Clark and husband Bill, of Shippenville, and Delene Siegel, of Leeper; his grandchildren, Julie Thompson, William (Sandy) Clark, Jr., Michael Clark, Lisa (Ted) Banner, Stephanie (Zach) Curran, Nathan (Jennifer) Siegel, Brandon Siegel, Austin Smith, Andy Smith, and Anthony Smith; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Smith, his sister, Evelyn Smith Miller, his son-in-law, Ronald Siegel and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Clark.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarion where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral services will be held at the Manor United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday with Carol Brown, pastor, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by members of the funeral honor guard of American Legion Post 66 of Clarion. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
