BROOKVILLE, Pa. (D9Sports) — Playing any amount of time without Tori Obenrader, arguably the best girls’ basketball player in District 9, would seem to be a challenge for the North Clarion girls’ basketball team.

But the She-Wolves showed they are more than just the junior star Friday in getting a 59-40 win over Brookville in the opening round of the Brookville Tip-off Tournament.

Obenrader picked up two quick fouls and sat out nearly nine minutes in the first half, but instead of folding North Clarion built a lead that was 8-3 when Obenrader left the game with five minutes to play in the first quarter to 19-5 by the time she returned with just over four minutes left in the second.

And it was a team effort with four different She-Wolves combining to score the 11 points led by five from Michaela Higgins. The 5-2 Higgins had a strong game finishing with 15 points while hitting four 3-pointers.

She talked about the win and her performance after the contest.

Despite the foul trouble, Obenrader still played a strong game as well scoring 20 points and picking up 16 rebounds.

North Clarion was particularly strong on the boards with three players reaching double digits in rebounds as Cassie Wagner added 12 and Ally Carll 10 boards.

A young Brookville squad with only two seniors and no juniors got eight points from Marcy Schindler and seven each from Madison McAnnich and Brooke Shattenberg.

North Clarion will face Clearfield in Saturday’s championship game, while Brookville takes on C-L in the consolation game.
