NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (EYT) — Multiple area fire departments responded to the scene of a structure fire at Diddy’s Bar in New Bethlehem on Friday afternoon.

The New Bethlehem Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 415 Broad Street in New Bethlehem Borough.

New Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Company, Clarion Fire & Hose Company No. 1, Distant Volunteer Fire Department, Hawthorn Volunteer Fire Department, Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, and Clarion Hospital EMS were dispatched to the scene.

An aerial truck from Clarion Fire & Hose Company No. 1 was dispatched to the scene around 3:00 p.m.

The fire was discovered within an apartment adjoining “Diddy’s Bar.”

Sources say a small section of siding on the outside of the bar caught fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and the scene was cleared around 4:20 p.m.

The PA State Police Fire Marshal was requested to determine the cause of the fire.

After conducting a scene examination, it was determined that a small appliance overheated causing the combustible materials stacked upon it, along with the baseboard and paneled walls to ignite.

The fire extended to the exterior of the building.

The owner of the building, Charles Theodore Powell, used a fire extinguisher to knock the fire down before the fire department arrived.

Fire Department personnel were able to extinguish the remaining fire.

Damages are estimated at approximately $20,000.00.

It is unknown if the apartment occupant has renter’s insurance; however, Powell has insurance on the building.

No injuries were reported.

The public is reminded to utilize smoke detectors and ensure they are tested regularly.
