WEATHER ALERT: River Flood Warning Issued for Region

A River Flood Warning has been issued for various counties throughout the region.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh issued the following message at 5:38 p.m.:

FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PITTSBURGH PA
538 PM EST THU JAN 12 2017

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a flood warning for the following rivers in Pennsylvania…

  • Allegheny River At Franklin affecting Venango County.
  • Allegheny River At Parker affecting Armstrong AND Clarion Counties.
  • Allegheny River At Rimer affecting Armstrong AND Clarion Counties.
  • Allegheny River At Mosgrove affecting Armstrong County.
  • Allegheny River At Kittanning affecting Armstrong County.
  • Allegheny River At Natrona affecting Allegheny AND Westmoreland County.
  • Allegheny River At CW Bill Young Dam affecting Allegheny County.

Heavy rain and snow melt across much of the Allegheny River Basin should cause minor flooding along much of the river Friday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

SAFETY MESSAGE: Do not drive through flooded areas. The water may be deeper than it appears. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather radio for later developments.

* Flood Warning for The Allegheny River At Parker.
* From Friday afternoon until late Friday night, or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 5:00 PM Thursday the stage was 12.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast…The river will rise above flood stage by Friday early afternoon and continue to rise to near 20.5 feet by Friday evening. The river will fall below flood stage by Friday evening.
* Impact…At 22.0 feet, Several homes on Route 268 flood.
