Area Residents Big Winners at PA Farm Show

HARRISBURG, Pa. (EYT) — When the contestants at the 101st Pennsylvania Farm Show display their creations and critters, everyone gets to see the finished product, but there is plenty of time and hard work that goes into them.

The Farm Show is in the home stretch, and many area residents did well in the show competitions.

Here are the winners from across the region.

Clarion County

In the Beef competition, Grace Ann Shick, of Clarion, had an outstanding performance with numerous first places.

In the Simmental Open — Reserve Junior Champion Heifer, Shick won with WESF Pickles, and in Early Senior Yearling Heifer (Sept.-Dec. 2014), Shick was first with Shick’s Harvest Boo, Grace Ann Shick.

Shick also won Senior Yearling Heifers (Sept. — Dec. 2014) and Senior Champion Heifer with Shick’s Harvest Boo.

In the Horse Show Category — Mini Horse and Mule Pulling, 38- inch class, Buck Troup, of New Bethlehem won with Ted and Daisy.

In the 4-H Textile Science Textile Art Quilt Contest, Grace Bartlett, of Parker, won Beginner Table runner, placemat, small quilt or other item — Machine Quilted.

Venango County

The Drake family, of Emlenton, did very well in the Family Living group with several first-place finishes. Olivia Drake (pictured on left) led the way with six first-place finishes.

Olivia DrakeIn Fashions With a Flair, 4-H Textile Science — Beginner Projects, Olivia Drake won with her wall hanging “Sew Much More.” Drake also won the Other Simple Non-Garment Items group.

Drake also won the 4-H Textile Science Art Quilt Contest in the Community of Club division. And, she won the Youth Classes — Quilts division with her crib quilt entry.

Drake wasn’t done there, though. She also brought home a first-place finish  in the 4-H Palette of Fun Scrapbooking, created by 13-18 year old (by January 1).

Finally, Drake won the Hobbies Jazzy Jar Contest in the youth (9-13) division.

Another Drake, Nadine, won the Hobbies Greeting Card Contest for those 19 and older.

It wasn’t just the Drake family, of Emlenton, that did well, there were a number of borough residents that took home first-place honors.

In Fashions With a Flair, 4-H Textile Science — Intermediate Projects, Lydia Seaton won in Accessories — grouping of 3 sewn accessories.

In Time Saving Pattern, Dori Kralj took first.

In Intermediate Quilt, pieced, applique, or other technique — machine quilted, Emilee Klingler was the winner.

In the Hobbies Handbag/Purse/Computer Bag, Adult Ages 19 and over group, Barbara Warden was the winner.

Among livestock, Titusville’s Scott Snyder won weight division 17 in Market Lambs — Junior Market Crossbreds.

Snyder also claimed wins in Market Goats — Junior Market Goats, weight division 8, Reserve Champion Heavyweight and Reserve Champion Crossbred.

Kennerdell’s Tom Cross took first in Beef Cattle, Hereford Open with Olive Oil 6B.

Jefferson County

In the Beef competition, Punxsutawney’s Adam Wise, of Wise Cattle Company, was a six-time winner.

They won won Early Spring Bull Calves (March 2016), Reserve Champion Bull Calf and Reserve Grand Champion Bull with Venus 622D.

Wise also won three times with Carnac Miss Uno Mass in Open Beef — Late Spring Heifer Calves (April 2016), Champion Spring Heifer and Reserve Grand Champion Heifer.

In the Market Swine group, Junior Market Swine — Crossbreds, Punxsutawney’s Janelle Stair won Weight Division 7, 8 and was Champion Middleweight.

In Market Lambs — Junior Market Crossbreds, Kaitlyn Bair, of Punxsy, won Weight Division 18.
