Clarview Considers Sewer Line Extension to Sligo Authority

SLIGO, Pa. (EYT) — Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is proposing an extension of its sewage lines to connect with the Sligo Borough Authority System.  Clarview currently has a private sewage plant for its facilities and Country Springs.

The proposal is a result of a study conducted by the EADS Group for Clarview that indicates the project is feasible.

“The proposed line will be installed from Clarview, down to SR 68, across the road towards Licking Creek, run parallel above the creek, cross back over SR 68, and connect to the Sligo system on Shamrock Drive,” said Kyle Fritz, PE of the EADS Group.

Fritz is in the process of discussing with the Piney Township Supervisors the option of also connecting the system with Piney Township customers.

“I plan to meet with supervisors again at their January 11 meeting to discuss the project,” wrote Fritz. “Following that meeting, I plan on attending the Sligo meeting on February 7 to discuss the process moving forward with the authority-borough.”

Chuck Marsh of the Sligo Authority said at the recent January Authority meeting at least one person from the township ask him if they could tie in, but he let them know they should talk with the township supervisors.

“I don’t see any problems with our capacity if we take it,” said Marsh about a connection. “They said they were going to come down 68 to the creek and back up onto Shamrock.  But without the pump station below Carl Henry’s right at the creek, I can’t see how they can do it without a pressurized line all the way in and gravity from there.”

Two routes are being considered, but Marsh emphasized that capacity is not a problem.

“As far as us having the capacity to take it, it’s not a problem. Once they give us a plan B, authority will have to discuss what the charges would be for such a connection. A private line for them would be like a three-inch line versus six or eight.  I personally think it would be better if they could pick up everybody’s they could get, but it would be up to the supervisors.”

Councilmember Wayne Meier said a possible connection for Piney Township makes more sense down the road, and Marsh agreed.

If an extension from Clarview to the Sligo Authority becomes a reality, Clarview would close its current plant, and Sligo’s certified operator would continue to be responsible to the authority.  Fees for Clarview’s usage of the system would be discussed as talks continue.
