Letter to the Editor: Bus Drivers Help Nurture, Protect Our Children
It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child, and Marienville is a perfect example of a village that works together to nurture and raise its children.
We see people on a daily basis, guiding and looking out for our students.
Then, there are those people behind the scene, who may not always be appreciated enough for their contribution. One of those examples is the van and bus drivers who transport our students to and from school each day. These are the men and women driving on paved and unpaved forest roads in all kinds of weather, who patiently wait while their wards bundle up, or run back inside to get a forgotten homework assignment or lost lunch.
They teach shoe tying, they bring in lost coats, misplaced class treats, and band instruments.
These are the people who make sure there is an adult home before they pull away from a house, and give out treats and gifts for any occasion and no occasion. These are the people who may even take a student home until an adult can be reached to insure that child’s welfare.
These are the people who are part of our village – AND, we want to say thank you.
