CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City man lost control of his car while reaching for a pack of cigarettes and crashed into another vehicle on Wednesday.
Franklin-based State Police say the accident happened around 12:51 a.m. on Route 322 just east of Karns Lane.
According to police, Austin J. Ruby, 21, of Oil City, was traveling east and became distracted when he reached for a pack of cigarettes, causing the vehicle to travel off the roadway.
Ruby overcorrected and swerved into the westbound lane of Route 322 before colliding with a guide rail.
Ruby’s 2000 Audi A6 then crossed back towards the eastbound lane and collided with a 2009 Dodge Caliber operated by Shayla S. Kerlin, 37, of Emlenton.
Kerlin’s vehicle subsequently crashed into a guide rail before coming to a final rest.
She was unharmed.
Ruby was transported by Community Ambulance to UPMC Northwest for treatment of minor injuries.
He was cited for a lane violation.
