FARMINGTON TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Marienville-based State Police say a teen threatened to “shoot up” North Clarion High School last night.

According to police, around 9:47 p.m. on February 1, an individual reported that 18-year-old Donald Louis Haywood, Jr., of Tylersburg, “was heard telling another student from the North Clarion Schools not to go to school tomorrow because he was going to ‘shoot the place up.'”

Troopers Lauer and Benson responded to the suspect’s residence in Tylersburg. Haywood was then interviewed and taken into custody.

According to police, “No further plans were discovered to further his statement.”

The investigation continues.

Haywood was charged with Terroristic Threats and Disorderly Conduct and arraigned before District Magistrate Justice Quinn in Clarion.

Unable to post $10,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Clarion County Jail.

Parents were notified last night via an automated phone message.

North Clarion Superintendent Steve Young told exploreClarion.com, “I was notified about the threat around 9:30 p.m. State Police took swift and appropriate action.”

“After I received confirmation from police, a school reach was sent to the parents that everything was safe.”

“Other than fielding a lot of phone calls this morning, assuring parents that the building is safe, everything is going well.”

ExploreClarion.com asked Mr. Young if there were any problems at school concerning Haywood, and he said that there were none in which he was aware.

When asked about whether attendance is down, Young said that the elementary was somewhat down.

“The overall attendance for the elementary is 325, and there are 56 students absent today. In the high school, 17 students are not present today out of 270 students.”

Sources say Haywood is a senior at North Clarion.
