MANSFIELD, Pa. – Mansfield University baseball standout Tanner Klein has been tabbed a First Team National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason All-Atlantic Region selection at third base.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of baseball and is dedicated to the advancement of the sport.

Last season, Klein made 45 starts at third base for the Mountaineers where he collected 53 hits in 154 at-bats for a .344 season average. Klein led the team in RBIs with 34 and slugging percentage at .506. He also topped the team in extra base hits with 11 doubles, four home runs and a triple. Klein totaled 14 multi-hit games in 2016 including five games with three hits.

Klein also made two appearances on the mound for Mansfield last season, allowing just one walk over 1.2 innings of no-hit work.

The Mountaineers open the 2017 season with a pair of doubleheaders at King University (Tenn.) starting February 18.
