CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — The Clarion Bobcats were denied a trip to the PIAA Class 2A Wrestling Tournament, but it was still a satisfying day for head coach Brian Luton as his team advanced to the true second-place match before bowing to Coudersport.

Clarion opened the day with a 37-27 win over Brockway before taking on three-time defending D-9 champion and defending state champion Brookville.

The Bobcats gave the heavy favorites a run for their money in the early-going by taking a 15-6 lead after four matches.

Brookville did go on to win 59-17 but no other team got any closer than the ‘Cats. Clarion then beat county rival Redbank Valley 39-32 in the consolation match to qualify for the true-second match.
