CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Bill Peck celebrated 25 years as a Clarion Borough police officer and detective with another step in law-enforcement Wednesday afternoon as he was sworn in as Clarion Borough’s new police chief.

Mayor Dan Parker swore in Peck as his hand rested on the family Bible held by his mother, Anna Peck. His father, Bill Peck, Sr., had the honor of pinning on his son’s new chief badge.  His father had 37 1/2 years in law enforcement, including Knox Borough Chief of Police from 1984 to 2001 and Clarion County Sheriff from 2002 to 2009.

Ben Aaron, chair of the Clarion Borough Police Committee, also witnessed the ceremony.

“I’ve worked here 25 years, and the Borough of Clarion has been good to me and has provided me what I needed to survive and raise a family of two beautiful kids,” said Peck.

“I can honestly say I worked hard just about every day in those 25 years.  I appreciate the borough citizens, borough council, the public safety committee, and the mayor for giving me this opportunity to lead, and I will give it 100 percent.”

Mayor Parker said Peck has served with distinction and has earned the new position.

Asked if there would be any change in police operations, Chief Peck said there are a couple of things in the works.

“We’re going to have to fill the detective position which I must say is very hard for me to step away from,” said Peck.  “I struggled for a couple of days because I really enjoyed that spot.”

“We’re going to have a bigger presence downtown, and the citizens and the business people downtown are going to know for sure who the chief of police is from this point forward.”

In addition to hiring a new detective and other vacant positions, Peck also said there would be some changes with the cars and attempts to get the officers some newer equipment.

In addition to his work with Clarion Borough over the last quarter of a century, Peck has also established a legendary career as a part-time detective with the Clarion Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET).  Despite the demands of the new position, Peck is going to continue his work for CNET.

“It’s going to continue for now,” said Peck.  “There’s a lot invested there and a lot of things going on, and at this point, I’m going to continue working hard there.  At some point, we’ll address it, but for now, it will continue.”

Clarion County District Attorney Mark Aaron is well aware of Peck’s accomplishments and congratulated him on his new position.

“Over the past ten years, William Peck has worked in my office as our Drug Task Force [CNET] coordinator,” said Aaron. “He has earned the trust and respect of not only the Clarion Borough community but across the Commonwealth.  There is no person more qualified to be the Clarion Borough police chief.”

“His ability to handle the high demands of being the single county-funded detective for CNET has proven he can succeed in the most difficult of circumstances. By allowing him to continue to serve as CNET coordinator, borough officials have shown that they realize the vital importance of Chief Peck’s work with CNET. Both the borough and the county at large will continue to benefit from his work.”
