Redbank Valley Wrestlers Knock off Clarion on Senior Night

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (EYT) — The Redbank Valley wrestlers celebrated Senior Night with a convincing win, 45-33, over Clarion Area.

Seven Bulldogs seniors participated in their final home match including Colten Mohney, Curtis Mohney, Colton Schrecengost, Gavin Schilling, John Tibbs, Scott Toth and Dawson Wilson. They were each presented with a large framed photo collage of their wrestling matches and a cookie cake.

In the match, Clarion jumped out to a 12-0 lead thanks to a forfeit at 220 pounds and pin by Matt Coleman of Schrecengost at heavyweight before the Bulldogs got on the board at 106 pounds when Ethan Wyant outscored Logan Dehner in overtime. The Bobcats then forfeited the next three matches putting Redbank ahead 21-12.

As 132 pounds, Wilson pinned Frank Weber after a hard-fought, well-balanced match to go ahead 27-12, and it was 33-12 after Riley McMasters of Clarion was injured in his match with Colton Mohney giving Mohney the injury default win.

Travis Crawford then pinned Sterling Connor at 145 pounds at 2:56 of the third period after trailing 6-0 to make it 39-12.

Clarion’s Mike LeFay pinned Caleb Snyder bringing the score to 39 -18. Clarion closed the gap even more with Colton Rapp’s win over Bryon Layton with a pin making it 39-24. Curtis Mohney then lost a heartbreaker to Seth Nellis in triple overtime to make it 39-27.

But Redbank’s Logan Minich beat Clarion’s Colt Stimmel in their 182-pound bout by a pin to make it 45-27.

Clarion ended the meet when Ben Smith pinned Gavin Schilling in their 195-pound bout to set the final at 45-33.

NOTES: The night’s wrestling match took place on a new set of mats donated to the Redbank Wrestling Program by the Redbank Valley Booster Club with donations by New Bethlehem VFW Post 415, New Bethlehem Moose Lodge 366 and the New Bethlehem Eagles Aerie 3807. The mats feature the Bulldogs logo and a dedication to all of the local servicemen who have lost their lives in service to our country.
