CUP Men Third; Women Fourth After Day One at PSAC Swim Championships

YORK, Pa. — The Clarion University men’s swimming team currently sits in third place with 79 points after day one of PSAC Championships at the York YMCA Aquatic Club.

The Blue and Gold return to action tomorrow morning for day two of the four-day championship event.

Nathan Porter got the ball rolling for the Golden Eagles on Thursday, racing out to a 6th-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a final time of 9:36.90. Patrick Oliver snagged a 14th overall finish, while Thomas Toborowski took 20th with a final mark of 10:11.11.

Ben Spencer took third overall in the 200 yard IM, touching out in 1:50.08 to earn CU 16 points. Ian Lindsey took ninth overall with a final mark of 1:52.99. Josh Thurston and Robert Hacku finished 11th and 15th respectively with final times of 21.31 and 21.63.

In addition, the 200 yard medley relay team of Spencer, Lindsey, Thurston, and Hacku snagged a fourth-place finish with a final mark of 1:33.40.

WOMEN IN FOURTH

YORK, Pa. — The Clarion University women’s swim team currently sits in fourth place with 154 points at the end of the first day of competition at the PSAC Championships at the York YMCA Aquatic Club. The Golden Eagles will return to action tomorrow morning for day two of the four-day competition.

Becca Yonek got the ball rolling for the Eagles Thursday evening, earning a 7th-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a final time of 10:27.64 to earn her team 23 points. Katherine Querciagrossa took 25th with 11:08.52 and Eliza O’Neal finished right behind her in 26th. Sydney Briner also finished in 34th.

Freshman Michelle Morrisey finished 13th overall in the 200 yard IM with a final time of 2:11.35, while Abbigale Newman and Alexis Lopez finished 6th and 7th, respectively in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 24.11 and 24.33. Letizia Collini took 16th overall, while Kelsey Burke took 18th with a time of 24.58.

Clarion’s 200-yard medley relay team of Summer Dacheux, Lopez, Newman, and Katie Gore managed a 4th overall finish with a time of 1:48.12, good enough to earn CU 52 points.
