CLARION, Pa. — Clarion Student Senate, Bacchus Gamma, and the University Activities Board will co-sponsor a visit by Jenni Schaefer, a renowned motivational speaker, author, and respected voice on the topic of eating disorders.

The event is at 6:00 p.m. on March 2 in Gemmell Multi-Purpose Room.

It is free and open to the public.

Schaefer is a national recovery advocate with Eating Recovery Center. She is chair of the Ambassadors Council of the National Eating Disorders Association, advisor to NEDA’s Certified Speakers Program, and recipient of their Westin Family Award for Excellence in Advocacy and Activism, as well as a member of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals and of the Academy of Eating Disorders.

Schaefer, whose own life has been impacted by an eating disorder, chronicled her journey back to health in her bestselling book, “Life Without Ed: How One Woman Declared Independence from Her Eating Disorder and How You Can Too.” The book recently was re-released on its 10th anniversary.

“Her novel inspired me throughout my recovery, and her tools helped me through my relapses,” said Kayla Handy, a senior communication and criminal justice major who organized the visit. “This event has such a personal touch to me, having fought an eating disorder for almost 12 years.”

Schaefer has spoken in educational settings and in treatment settings for recovery from drug and alcohol abuse, trauma, and eating disorders.

Schaefer’s book will be available for purchase.

Sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon will host a candlelight vigil following the talk.
