Dancer’s Studio Brings Home High Awards

CLARION, Pa. — The Dancer’s Studio Mini, Junior, Teen, and Senior Competition dance teams attended their second event for the 2016-2017 season in Pittsburgh at the DanceMakers Convention and Competition January 13-15, 2017.

The team of thirty-five competitive dancers attended the three-day competition and participated in numerous master classes taught by professional dancers and choreographers.

The dancers performed in several categories, including solos, duos, trios, and groups. Genres included lyrical, contemporary, general variety, tap, musical theater, jazz, and hip-hop.

Each dance routine was adjudicated and awarded either high first (96-100 points), first (90-95 points), second (80-89 points), or third (70-79 points) place. The teams received three high first place awards, 18 first place awards, 27 second place awards, and three third place awards.

Overall, Aoife Salusky was chosen as a National Junior Scholarship winner; Lissie Lauer was Miss Senior Soloist 4th Runner Up; Abbey Barron was Miss Pre-Teen Soloist 3rd Runner Up; and Caitlyn Wolfe was Miss Junior Soloist 8th Runner Up.

Style High Score Awards were presented to nine routines: Senior Duo/Trio Tap (Lissie Lauer, Kelsey Wolf), Senior Line Lyrical, Senior Line Tap, Senior Line Hip Hop, Pre-Teen Duo/Trio Tap (Abbey Barron, Kaylee Baumcratz), Junior Duo/Trio Tap (Charlotte Schultz, Addison Siegel), Junior Duo/Trio Hip Hop (Reese Cornecki, Nevaeh Smith, Caitlyn Wolfe), Junior Line Tap, and Junior Line Contemporary.

Five routines were awarded Judge’s Pick awards. In the Senior Group division, the Judge’s Pick award was given to “Little Girl Blue” and the Senior Line High Score Runner Up award was given to “Can’t Stop This Feeling.” In the Pre-Teen Division, the Judge’s Pick award was given to “DC.” In the Junior Group Division, “Bases Loaded” received a Judge’s Pick award.

Routines were choreographed by owner A-Jo Gallagher, teachers Catherine Hayes, Alex Lawrence, and Shannon Peterson, as well as guest choreographers Kate Harpootlian, Rory Freeman, Channing Cooke, AC Ciulla, and Jason Marquette.

“The teams left their mark on the stage, just as I had asked. I encouraged them to dance with intention and show off their craft, and I’m proud of them for their achievements! We are ready to take the stage at our next competition in February,” said A-Jo Gallagher, owner of the Dancer’s Studio.
