Viola B. Shumaker (Bowersox)

Viola B. Shumaker, 95, formerly of Oil City, died on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo.

Born on September 13, 1921 in Porter Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of the late Blaine and Naomi Floy (Shook) Bowersox.

She was married to Laird D. Shumaker on June 25, 1955 and he preceded her in death on July 27, 1980.

Along with her husband, Viola was a co-owner of Culligan Water Softner in Oil City.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City and was active in her church.

She is survived by two step daughters, Sue Ann Spangler and her husband, Jerry of Mechanicsburg and Winnie Jo Wilson and her husband, Dr. John Wilson of Greensburg, four grandchildren, John Wilson and his wife, Marje, Scott Wilson and his wife, Pamela, Jennifer Wilson Whipkey and her husband, Lloyd, and Melissa Spangler Chapman and her husband, Edward, five great grandchildren, Parker Wilson, Sloane Wilson, Nathaniel Whipkey, Noelle Chapman, and John S. Wilson IV, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, an infant, Merle Bowersox, and Dean Bowersox, and three sisters, Grace Milliron, Lois Stuart, and Ruth Dickerson.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.

The funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home with Pastor Jodie Smith officiating.

Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Distant.
