Redbank Valley Grapplers Gearing Up for D-9 Championships

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (EYT) – The District 9 2A Wrestling Pairings for this weekend’s tournament at Clearfield Area High School have been released by Chairman Randy Cathcart.

The action begins at 4 p.m. Friday with the preliminary round, followed by the quarterfinals and two rounds of consolations.

Saturday, the semifinals begin at 10:30 a.m. with two rounds of consolations.

At 3:30 p.m., the Parade of Champions and District 9 Hall of Fame presentation will be done.

The finals and consolation finals begin at 4 p.m.

The top four finishers in each weight class qualify for the 2A Northwest Regional Tournament in Sharon March 3-4. A team trophy will also be awarded.

Tickets are $3 for students and $6 for adults. For all sessions, student tickets are $9 and adults $18.

Food, snacks and beverages will be available for purchase at the Clearfield Area High School cafeteria.

For the Bulldogs, they field a full complement of wrestlers. They are led by two third-seeded grapplers in freshman Ethan Wiant and sophomore Hunter Martz.

At 106 pounds, freshman Ethan Wiant (32-5) is seeded third and has a bye before taking on the winner of the match between Cranberry’s Jacob Umsted and Curwensville’s Zach Holland.

At 113, sophomore Mason Songer (17-6) is seeded fourth and will battle Port Allegany’s Payton Caden in the quarterfinals.

At 120, sophomore Hunter Martz (18-11) is seeded third and will face Sheffield’s Kole Holden in the quarterfinals.

At 126, sophomore Brayden Altobelli (16-10) will wrestle top-seeded Kai Sorbin of Brookville in the quarterfinals.

At 132, senior Dawson Wilson (15-12) is seeded fifth and will face Curwensville’s Ethan Collins.

At 138, senior Colten Mohney (15-8) is seeded sixth and will wrestle Cameron County’s Albert Haynes in the prelims.

At 145, sophomore Travis Crawford is seeded sixth and will battle Oswayo Valley’s William Russell in the prelims.

At 152, sophomore Caleb Snyder (1-10) is seeded eighth and will face the winner of the match between Brockville’s Caleb Hetrick and Cranberry’s Zach Huegel.

At 160, junior Bryan Layton (1-7) faces Keystone’s Donavan Edwards.

At 170, senior Curtis Mohney is seeded fifth and will take on Cranberry’s Jesse York in the prelim.

At 182, junior Logan Minich (18-8) is seeded No. 4 and will wrestle Port Allegany’s Robbie Arnett.

At 195, senior Gavin Shilling (2-4) is seeded seventh and will face Coudersport’s Troy McKeone.

At 220, senior Colten Schreckengost (4-10) opens with Brookville’s Tyler Cook.

At 285, sophomore Brandon Goodman (2-6) opens with Curwensville’s Steven McClure.
