Mother Nature: Temperatures Will Drop, But Little Snow Likely

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Are you enjoying the weather?

It’s very likely most people are.

School bus drivers, those who have to shovel their driveways, or individuals who have lengthy commutes for work can’t be complaining about a winter like this.

Cross country skiers, snowmobilers, snowman makers, well — better luck next winter.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, temperatures in the region are running, on average, 10 to 15 degrees above normal.

“But we still have more cold air to come,” said John Darnley, a Hydro Meteorological Technician with the NWS (National Weather Service) in Pittsburgh.

According to usclimatedata.com, the average February high in Clarion is 35 degrees and the average low is 16.

Clarion has had about five inches of snow this month, and it will very likely remain that way.

The cold will return Saturday night as forecasted daytime highs of 52 drop to 26 with a 40 percent chance of snow showers between around 9:00 p.m. and midnight.

The NWS forecast through Monday shows no better than a 30 percent chance of snow for Sunday and Monday.

In Franklin, it has received about 5 inches of snow. Its February average is 9.1 inches. In March, the average is 9.4.

In neighboring Oil City, the NWS forecast through Monday is about the same.

In Tionesta, it has had 8.1 inches of snow in February. The average is 10.2. In March, the average snowfall total is 7.7 inches.

The forecast in Venango County is very much the same, with temperatures dropping into the 20s late Saturday with a 30 to 40 percent chance of snow showers.

There is no measurable snow in the forecast for the next several days.
