CLARION TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Additional details have been released concerning an incident in which a Jefferson County man allegedly fired a gun in a Clarion University Housing Complex.
According to a criminal complaint, around 5:03 a.m. on February 21, a known man came to the Clarion University Police Station to report an incident that took place at Reinhard Village. The known man stated that 21-year-old Kyle Henry Craig, of Reynoldsville, came to Clarion to celebrate his 21st birthday.
Craig went out with some of his friends and was brought back to the known man’s apartment at Reinhard Village around 3:00 a.m. The known man was sleeping, but he got up to help Craig, as “he was very intoxicated and vomiting. (The known man, along with two other known men,) were trying to take care of Craig. Shortly afterwards, Craig became upset and stated that he wanted the keys to his vehicle, but (the known men) refused to give him his keys. Craig became angry and went outside to his truck. He came back to the apartment, kicked open the apartment door, and pointed a handgun at (the known men) and stated, ‘Give me my (expletive) keys,'” the complaint states.
One of the known men “jumped on Craig’s back and grabbed his hand which the gun was in.” While the men were struggling with Craig to get the gun, it allegedly went off, and a bullet went into the living room wall and exited the bedroom wall where another known man was in, the complaint continues.
According to the complaint, the known man who was being interviewed stated that he grabbed the gun, walked outside the apartment, and took the clip out of the gun. At this point, Craig came out of the apartment and ran into the woods.
It was learned that Craig was on 5th Avenue, and Clarion-based State Police located him and took him into custody. He was then transported back to the Clarion University Police Station.
The following items were taken as evidence for the case:
– one 9mm casing;
– one 9mm bullet; and
– one Ruger 9mm handgun.
Damage to the front apartment door was also observed by Clarion University Police.
According to court documents, Craig was arraigned at Magisterial Judge Duane Quinn’s office on the following charges:
– Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2 (two counts)
– Criminal Mischief — Damage Property, Misdemeanor 3
– Terroristic Threats W/ Intent To Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1 (two counts)
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2 (two counts)
– Discharge Of A Firearm Into Occupied Structure, Felony 3
– Firearms Not To Be Carried W/O License, Felony 3
Unable to post $75,000.00 monetary bail, Craig was lodged in the Clarion County Jail on February 21; however, on February 24, his bail was posted by a professional bondsman.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on April 18 with Judge Quinn presiding.
