Fire Forces Evacuation at South Bethlehem House

SOUTH BETHLEHEM, Pa (EYT) – Residents of the South Bethlehem House apartments were evacuated at approximately 9:10 Tuesday night after a fire was discovered in a second-floor apartment.

Fire units from Distant joined the New Bethlehem firefighters at the site. Firefighters extinguished a fire in the second-floor apartment and opened the windows to clear the smoke.

Building resident John Ash was carried from the building on a stretcher with apparent burns on his face. He was treated by EMS on the scene and was not transported to the hospital. At this time, it appears that Mr. Ash had left a pan to overheat on the stove, which then caught fire.

Building maintenance man, Barry Fox, reported that there was some smoke damage in the Ash apartment, but no other damage to the apartment or the building itself. Residents were allowed back in the building at about 10 pm. The last of the fire department units left about 15 minutes later.
