District 9 Boys’ Basketball PIAA Roundup: ECC, Ridgway Advance to Quarterfinals

HYDE, Pa. (D9Sports) — A pair of District 9 boys’ basketball teams moved into the PIAA quarterfinals with second-round wins Thursday.

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders beat Williamsburg out of District 6, 76-48, in Class 1A action, while Ridgway defeated District 5 champion Berlin Brothersvalley, 42-28.

In the ECC game, Gabe Kraus scored 24 points while Nate DaCanal added 23.

For Ridgway, Neil MacDonald paced the way in a slow-down game with 14 points with Andy Breier adding 10.

Two other District 9 boys’ teams saw their seasons end with Coudersport suffering its first loss of the year to one-loss Greensburg Central Catholic, 72-63, in Class 2A, and Johnsonburg suffering an 85-38 defeat to District 6 champion Saltsburg in Class 1A.
