Three Clarion County YMCA Swimmers Heading to State Swim Meet

CLARION, Pa. — Three Clarion County YMCA swimmers are heading to the Pennsylvania YMCA Swim Meet after crushing their seed times at the PA West District Swim Meet. The Pennsylvania State Swim Meet will be held at Penn State’s McCoy Natatorium on Sunday, March 26.

Clarion’s Maya Wilshire will compete in the Girls 9-10 200 yard freestyle at the State Meet. She placed 6th overall at the PA West District Meet earning an automatic spot in the State Meet.

Kevin Young will swim in the Boys 9-10 100 yard backstroke at Pennsylvania States after “swimming up” an age group. Young is seven and will compete against 9-10 year olds. He placed fourth overall at the Pennsylvania West District Meet earning an automatic spot at the State Swim Meet.

Patrick Young will compete in the Boys 11-12 50 yard butterfly and Boys 11-12 100 yard butterfly at Pennsylvania States. He placed fourth and fifth overall in each event at the PA West District Meet. Patrick Young is a 2016 State Qualifier.

Several other swimmers posted respectable times at the PA West District Meet, held March 10-12 at Penn State’s McCoy Natatorium.

2017 Riversharks Districts Relay

The Riversharks 11-12 boys’ 200 yard medley relay team of William Murray, Brayden Murray, Patrick Young and Bailee Verdill had a successful swim taking 5.09 seconds off their seed time. They placed 10th overall earning a spot on the podium for awards.

Alayna Murray placed 9th overall in the girls 13-14, 200 yard breaststroke, earning a spot on the podium for awards.

The Clarion County YMCA Riversharks swim team is a competitive youth sport for ages 6-18 in Clarion County. The season begins in October and ends in March.
