Paul Baker

Paul Baker, 93 of Nectarine passed away March 27, 2017 at UPMC Northwest.

Paul was born on July 18, 1923 he was the son of Braden and Sylvia Hovis Baker. He received his education at Walters School House.

Paul married Wilda Walters on September 18, 1941, she passed away March 19, 1988.

Paul retired from Cooper Bessemer in Grove City in 1982 but worked other jobs throughout his life.

He started working in 1939 digging coal for Baker Coal Mines.

In 1944 he worked for Batam in Butler as a sprayer, painting Jeeps for the war.

Before starting work at the Cooper Bessemer in 1950 he worked at the CPT in Franklin as a painter and also for the Railway laying track.

Paul enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. He kept in touch with his buddies with his CB’s, his handle being Short Wave.

He kept busy in garage rebuilding small engines and his specialty, Wheel Horse lawn mowers. He kept his yard up and took great pride in mowing it. Paul was happiest outside hunting and fishing. He was a avid traveler, he visited all 50 states.

He worked for different townships hauling gravel and loved to lend a friend a hand hauling in their winter coal.

He was a life member of the Moose in Franklin, a social member at the VFW in Hilliard’s and a member at the Eagles in Grove City.

Loved ones left to cherish Paul’s memory are his daughter Peggy Kelly and husband Doug of Clintonville and his granddaughters Stacy Honen and her husband Steve Ohio and Teresa Kelly of North Carolina. A brother also survive Gene Baker of Nectarine. His special friend Katherine Tirk of Harrisville also survive. Numerous nieces and nephews survive.

The family will receive friends at Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton Street, Clintonville on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 11:00 am till time of funeral services at noon. The Rev. Kenneth Hughes will be officiating the service from the Barkeyville Methodist Church.
