Allegheny River of the Year Events Planned

Friday, April 7

Allegheny College Creek Connections Student Research Symposium

Penn Soil RC&D Executive Director Wes Ramsey has been invited to do a presentation on the Allegheny River winning the 2017 PA River of the Year designation and provide a display about the River of the Year Celebration for the 400 students participating in the Symposium.

The Symposium will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Allegheny College Henderson Campus Center on Highland Avenue in Meadville.   Visit the symposia website at https://creekconnections.allegheny.edu for more information.

Tuesday April 18

Warren County Conservation District Annual Meeting 

Featuring Piper VanOrd & River of the Year

The public is invited to attend the Annual Meeting of the Warren County Conservation District at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, April 18, at the District Office located at 4000 Conewango Avenue in Warren.

The Conservation District will be honoring their 2016 award winners including Farmer of the Year, Educator of the Year, and Forest Landowner of the Year.

The featured speaker will be Piper Vanord of Allegheny Outfitters who will present A Brief History of the Allegheny River in Warren County.

The public is invited, but a RSVP is required by April 13 by calling 814-726-1441.

Saturday, May 13

Allegheny Reservoir Cleanup

The Allegheny National Forest and its partners are once organizing the popular shoreline clean-up of the Allegheny Reservoir Saturday, May 13.

Pre-registration is required and will be accepted through Friday, May 6, at www.alleghenyrivercleanup.com or by e-mail at info@alleghenyrivercleanup.com.

Volunteers are to meet by 8:30 a.m. at the Onoville Marina, West Perimeter Road, Steamburg, N.Y. (two miles north of the NY/PA state line) and should dress for the weather as the cleanup will be held rain or shine.

The work should be completed by 4:00 p.m.

Organized volunteer groups, such as Boy and Girl Scouts, and individual volunteers are encouraged to pre-register and plan a day of fun while cleaning up the reservoir and protecting the environment.

Parental consent and adult supervision is required for groups and any person under the age of 18.

All volunteers must sign a volunteer agreement. Volunteers also need to bring a lunch and drinking water for the day and wear long pants and closed-toed shoes or boots.

There will be a Thank You cook-out at the marina at the end of the day.  Hot dogs, chips, and pop will be provided by Wal-Mart.
