Tuesday’s HS Softball/Baseball Roundup: Kennedy DeMatteis Strong in Moniteau Victory

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (D9Sports) — Five different Moniteau players had multiple-hit games led by a three-hit performance by Kennedy DeMatteis on its way to an 18-0, five-inning win over Russell (Ky.) in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Kennedy DeMatteis was 3-for-4 with a triple, four runs scored and three RBIs to lead the Lady Warriors offense and was also the winning pitcher throwing a one-hit gem striking out 10 over five innings of work.

Cortney Claypoole added a 2-for-3 performance for Moniteau with four runs scored, while Gabby Stewart was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Megan Hepler was 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and a run scored with Dolcey Shunk going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Sara Hull, who was 1-for-3 with a double, also scored three times and drove home two.

A 10-run first inning put the game away early for Moniteau.

UNION 15, A-C VALLEY 0, 3 INNINGS

RIMERSBURG, Pa. — Hunter Johnston and Luke Bowser each drove in three runs to help Union to a 15-0, 3-inning win over visiting A-C Valley.

Johnston was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored with Bowser going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Reice Saylor got the win not allowing a hit in three innings of work. He walked two and recorded all nine outs by strikeout.

Luke Salvo, Dana Logue and Isaac Yoder each added a pair of RBIs for the Golden Knights.

Logue was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, Salvo was 1-for-2 with three runs scored and Yoder was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

MONITEAU 5, KARNS CITY 4

BUTLER, Pa. — Jared Lominski went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Moniteau to a 5-4 win over rival Karns City at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler.

The Warriors trailed 2-1 going to the third before Lominski’s solo shot tied the game. Moniteau then scored three more runs in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.

Karns City scored twice in the fifth to close within one, and the Gremlins got the leadoff man on in the bottom of the seventh before Chance Nagy came in and got a fly out, a strikeout and a groundout to pick up the save.

Jake Jewart got the win going five innings allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Nagy added a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.

Marcus Lantz was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI for Karns City. Cullen Williams and Jace Ebbitt also had doubles for the Gremlins with Williams driving in a run and Ebbitt scoring a run.

Eric Dodd took the complete-game loss. He gave up five runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out three.
