State Police Investigating Two Accidental Shootings in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — State police are investigating two accidental shootings that occurred over the weekend in Jefferson County.

The first incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the borough of Timblin.

Around 4:05 p.m., PSP Punxsutawney were dispatched to 693 East Market Street in Timblin for a report of a shooting.

According to police, a 14-year-old Amish male was found inside the residence with a gunshot wound to his left eye.

Upon further investigation, police learned that the gun, a .22 caliber, was in the hands of the victim’s 13-year-old brother, also of Timblin, at the time it went off.

The victim has been hospitalized and is in stable condition, police say.

The shooting was accidental, according to police.

No other information is available.

State police are also investigating an accidental shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon in Punxsutawney, Bell Township.

According to police, the incident occurred around 2:56 p.m. at a residence on Cloe Church Street. A known, 39-year-old man had just finished loading a revolver and dropped the weapon. He reached out in an attempt to catch the weapon midair, causing it to fire. His hand and abdomen were injured.

He was transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries are unknown.
