Monday’s HS Baseball Roundup: Layton Delivers in 13th to Give Redbank 2-1 Win over Karns City

OAK RIDGE, Pa. (D9Sports) — Bryan Layton’s two-out single in the bottom of the 13th inning scored Blaney Brooks to end a marathon and lift Redbank Valley to a 2-1 win over Karns City.

The winning rally started with two outs and no runners on base. Brooks walked, went to second on a wild pitch and beat the throw home to the plate on Layton’s single past third base down the left-field line.

The only other runs of the game were scored in the seventh inning. Jay Weckerly singled in Cullen Williams with two outs in the top of the seventh for Gremlins but the Bulldogs sent the game into extras with a run in the bottom of the inning when Brooks walked with the bases loaded to score Nick Smith with one out.

Layton went 3-for-6 to lead the Bulldogs while Logan Wadding and Smith each had two hits. Brooks walked four times.

Grayson Harman threw the final 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win, giving up three hits while walking three and striking out five. Layton went the first 7 2/3 innings, allowing four hits while striking out 10 and walking none.

Karns City pitchers Tyler Yough, Eric Dodd and Markus Lantz combined to strike out 19 Bulldogs. Yough gave up six hits and four walks with nine strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings, Dodd threw the next six innings with three hits allowed and four walks with 10 strikeouts. Lantz was the losing pitcher, facing the final two batters of the game.

A-C VALLEY 11, KEYSTONE 7

PARKER, Pa. — A five-run third inning helped propel A-C Valley to an 11-7 win over visiting Keystone.

The Falcons trailed 5-4 going to the bottom of the third but took the lead for good with the big inning.

Austin Kriebel and Aaron Busch each had a pair of RBIs in the win for A-C Valley with Kriebel going 1-for-2 with three walks and three runs scored and Busch finishing 1-for-3 with a walk and a double.

Lane Chalmers also scored twice for the Falcons while going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and an RBI.

Brooks LaVan was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Keystone, while Sawyer Reed drew a pair of walks and scored twice and Brodi Switzer was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Izaya Seeker, who had a double on offense, got the win in relief pitching 4 ⅔ innings allowing two runs, both earned, on two hits and five walks while striking out two.

NORTH CLARION 24, FOREST AREA 0, 4 INNINGS; NORTH CLARION 16, FOREST AREA 1, 4 INNINGS

MARIENVILLE, Pa. — North Clarion outscored Forest Area 30-1 in a doubleheader sweep of the Fires at East Forest.

The Wolves won the first game, 24-0, in four innings then took Game Two, 16-1, also in four innings.

In the opener, Logan Weaver got the win going three innings with Jacob Bauer throwing an inning of scoreless relief. Logan Minich hit a home run, one of 13 North Clarion hits.

In the second game, Matson Higgins got the win in relief of Lee Seales. Both pitchers went two innings with Seales giving up the lone run.

Bryce Byers was 3-for-3 with a triple to lead the Wolves offense with Seales going 2-for-3 with a double.

MONITEAU 15, UNION 0, 4 INNINGS

RIMERSBURG, Pa. — Josh Adamson drove in three runs and Lake Pry didn’t give up a hit in four innings of work, as visiting Moniteau rolled past Union, 15-0, in four innings.

Adamson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Pry walked two while striking out five. He needed 58 pitches to get through his four innings. Pry also had an RBI and scored a run.

Jake Jewart was 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, three runs scored and an RBI, while Nick Sosigian, Nathan Sosigian and Wyatt Geibel each had two RBIs for Moniteau.

Reice Saylor took the loss going three innings allowing 10 runs, five earned, on seven hits and three walks while striking out seven.

An 11-run fourth inning broke the game open for Moniteau, which scored its other four runs in the third.
