DUBOIS, Pa. (D9Sports) — In a rematch of last year’s District 9 Class 1A title game, Libby Maurer and Alyssa Bittner each drove in three runs to lead DuBois Central Catholic to an 11-6 win over visiting Clarion.

Maurer was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, while Bittner went 2-for-4.

Shayleigh Gulvas added two RBIs and two runs scored, while Riley Assalone was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Maya Thornton was 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored for Clarion.

Also for the Lady Cats, Sidney Kiser went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Carly Best was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Cora Zerfoss 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Assalone got the win going seven innings allowing six runs, five earned, on 10 hits and a walk while striking out 10.

Sadie Rudesyle took the loss going five innings allowing 11 runs, four earned, on 11 hits and four walks while striking out one.

WEST SHAMOKIN 5, REDBANK VALLEY 1

RURAL VALLEY — Cassie Cogley threw a three-hitter and West Shamokin scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat the visiting Redbank Valley.

It was the first loss of the year for the Lady Bulldogs (3-1), who host Johnsonburg Thursday in a makeup of last week’s rainout. Then they’re off until next Tuesday and Friday, home against Forest and at Moniteau respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead into the fateful bottom of the sixth. Alyssa Burkett led off the third inning with a single, courtesy runner Lauren Smith moved to second on a Lexi Holt groundout, Kaia Rearick singled her to third and Smith scored on Kara Hicks’ groundout.

But that was it for the Lady Bulldogs against Cogley, who struck out two and walked two. The only other hit was Holt’s leadoff single in the first inning.
