JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — The case against a Punxsutawney man accused of shooting at four people inside a car last month will go forward, but the most serious charges against him have been dropped.
According to online court documents, on April 13, four counts of Criminal Attempt-Criminal Homicide and four counts of Criminal Homicide (intent) against 31-year-old Nathan Scott Brady, of Punxsutawney, were withdrawn.
The following charges against Brady have been transferred to Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas:
– Aggravated Assault (four counts)
– Recklessly Endangering Another Person (five counts)
– Propel Missile Into Occupied Vehicles (four counts)
– Simple Assault (four counts)
The charges stem from an incident in which he allegedly fired an AK-47 into a vehicle on Sunday, March 19.
Jefferson County District Attorney Jeff Burkett said the homicide with intent and attempted homicide were dropped after forensic evidence and witness interviews led police investigators to believe Brady was firing at the pavement and not the vehicle.
Brady is free on $100,000.00 unsecured bail.
His case is working its way through the court system.
According to a previous story on explorejeffersonpa.com, Punxsutawney Borough Police Department received a call around 1:53 a.m., on Sunday, March 19, stating that Brady had been in a fight with his girlfriend and another woman at a residence at 329 Oakland Avenue. It was learned that Brady left the residence and that “he had gun and had been drinking throughout the night and is known to be violent.”
Officers Marshall and Clement responded to the scene to speak with the victims. Brady’s girlfriend “had signs of recent physical trauma,” the complaint stated.
As the officers were gathering information, they received a call of gunshots being fired at 606 Sutton Street.
As officers were traveling to 606 Sutton Street, they were waved down by four individuals standing beside the gas pumps at the West End Unimart. They stated that they had been shot at by Brady, the complaint continues.
While speaking with the victims, officer Marshall observed what appeared to be bullet holes on the driver’s side of one of the victim’s vehicle.
Officers learned that the victims were at Brady’s residence, and a verbal altercation ensued.
Two of the individuals entered the residence, and Brady retreated into a dark room. The two men left the residence and back into their vehicle.
At this time, “Brady exited his residence and discharged his semi-automatic AK-47 in the direction of (the) vehicle and struck it four times,” according to the complaint.
Officers arrested Brady at his 606 Sutton Street residence without incident.
When questioned, Brady allegedly stated that he shot two rounds into the air trying to scare off the intruders, the complaint states.
During the investigation, four spent shell casings were retrieved from the road, and a Draco-C AK-47 and two rifles were seized from Brady’s residence.
