Once again it was DeMatteis sisters of Kennedy and Kristina that had huge games to lead the way.

Kennedy, who threw a five-inning shutout that included eight strikeouts, also had a big day at the plate going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBIs.

Meanwhile, Kristina hit two home runs giving her six in six games this season and also added triple going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

“It was a good game, our pitcher (Kennedy DeMatties) did a great job today, and that was big for us,” said Moniteau head coach Lennie Claypoole.

Following a perfect top of the first Cortney Claypoole hit one of her two triples then Kennedy DeMatties hit her home on a RBI ground out.

Kristina followed with her first home run of the game, a solo shot, putting Moniteau up 2-0 after an inning.

Clarion was able to get its first base runner in the top of second as starting pitcher Sadie Rudesyle walked, but Kennedy DeMatteis got back-to-back ground outs by Kate Constantino and Lindsey Kemmer.

Using a little two-out lighting in the bottom half of the second, Gabby Stewart hit a two-out single then stole second leading to a Claypoole walk and Kennedy DeMatteis’s double putting the Lady Warriors up 4-0. Kristina DeMatteis then hit her second home run of the game, this one a two-run shot extending the Lady Warriors lead to 6-0 after two.

“Honestly, we do that a lot,” said. Claypoole. “We don’t quit with two outs, and we preach that to them all the time. It’s easy to base run with two outs, and, obviously, two-out hits are big.”

The Lady Cats were able were able to draw two walks with two outs in the third, but Kennedy DeMatties again got out of it by striking out Sydney Kiser.

In what was basically deja vu for Clarion in the third.

Starting pitcher Rudesyle again retired two of the first three batters with leadoff hitter Megan Hepler singling.

Dolcey Shunk then reached second base on an infield error by Kate Constantino that scored Hepler.

A throwing error by Alexis Constantino trying to throw out Stewart at first base allowed Shunk to score making it 8-0.

Claypoole then hit her second triple of game scoring Stewart, Kennedy DeMatties then doubled in Claypoole, and Kristina DeMatteis tripled home her sister before the Lady Cats finally got out of the inning at 11-0.

“Moniteau’s a very good team,” Clarion head coach Dan Shofestall said. “You can’t give them extra chances. We have to play better defense.

“Defense is one thing that has to get better. We’re going to keep working at it, because I know we are a good defensive team. It’s just a matter of us going out and playing like it. We’ll get it fixed and be ready to go.”

Clarion could only muster a Kate Constantino walk in the top of the fourth, while Rudesyle had her first 1-2-3 inning on the mound in the bottom half.

Down to the final out, Clarion broke up the no-hitter in the fifth as Cora Zerfoss and then Alexis Constantino singled, but Kennedy DeMatties was able to strikeout Kiser ending the game which was the 600th career strikeout of her career.
