Pilates, Yoga, and Beginner Rowing New at YMCA in May

CLARION, Pa. — The Clarion County YMCA has a full schedule of group exercise in May. New Pilates, Yoga and Beginner Rowing classes will be offered in addition to other popular favorites.

Pilates will be held on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Y and will be taught by Susan Slike.

Cathy Joslyn is returning to teach Yoga on Mondays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and Bob MacKinlay will teach Beginner Rowing on Mondays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. and Tuesdays from 5:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

“We’re excited to bring some new group exercise options to the Y in May,” said April Dinger, who coordinates the classes.

A group exercise package is just $15.00 for the entire month for YMCA members. Take any or all of the classes all month long. Non-members may join any class for a $5.00 drop-in fee or pay $50.00 for the full month.

“We offer your first class free the first time you take it,” said Dinger. “We’re confident you’ll enjoy the class and want to attend more.”

Group Exercise Classes Include:

Body Blast — A tabata-style workout, designed to improve strength and build lean muscle while challenging the core. This class uses a variety of formats and equipment including barbell, resistance tubing, dumbbells and body weight exercises to blast all major muscle groups. The workout will never be the same, so this class will keep you on your toes while keeping the mind and body equally engaged.

Ab Blast — A 30 minute core focused class to improve on toning the abs and strengthening the back to improve posture and core strength. Standing functional core training is combined with floor ab exercises to give you a vital core strengthening experience.

Circuit Blast — Blast away fat and strengthen your entire body with a balance of exercises between upper body, lower body, and core. Designed in 6 circuit stations completed 3 times. Circuit Blast incorporates the tabata-style intervals of 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds rest. Choose your own intensity, you are sure to get a great total body workout with this inspiring class.

Row 45 — For new and experienced rowers, offers low impact, full-body workout in an efficient 45 minutes class. Burn calories while enjoying a fun interval workout in a uniquely motivating fitness environment.

Core and More — A one hour class that focuses on the core of your body by incorporating weight resistance with isometric strengthening. You will get a total body workout in a fun, energetic atmosphere. You will use a variety of exercise tools to keep a little bit of variety in the mix.

Pilates — Each class will work to balance all muscle groups’ strength and flexibility, with an emphasis on challenging the core muscles with each movement. Exercises will be presented at multiple levels which allows you to follow at beginning, intermediate, or advanced pace. Pilates is a challenging yet safe method to sculpt your body and to feel increased agility in your everyday movements.

Intro Row — This 45 minute class will introduce you to our WaterRower rowing machines and teach you the basics of proper rowing form. The focus is on form, fun and individualized attention. And don’t worrywhile you’re learning, you will also be sweating. No experience required, fun for the whole family.

Yoga — A hour class of yoga poses that are used to enhance strength, cardiovascular endurance, and enhance flexibility, as well as relieve stress and tension. All fitness levels welcome.

The Clarion County YMCA hours are: Weekdays 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
