SUGAR GROVE, Pa. (EYT) — Authorities say a New York man stopped for a speeding violation got back in his car during a sobriety test and led Pennsylvania State Police troopers on a high-speed chase.

According to a report issued Wednesday by Warren-based State Police, Mick Daniel Peterson, 25, of Jamestown, N.Y., was stopped for a speeding violation at 9:01 p.m., Saturday, April 22, on Jones Hill Road in Sugar Grove.

Peterson was suspected of DUI, and when police attempted to conduct a field sobriety test, Peterson got back in his vehicle and allegedly drove away at a high rate of speed.

State Police initiated a chase before troopers lost sight of Peterson due to the amount of dirt and dust and eventually ended the pursuit.

Charges of DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and several traffic-related summary violations were filed via a summons.

Mick faces a preliminary hearing on May 25 in Warren County Central Court.
