Thursday’s High School Baseball Roundup: Toth, Layton Go Deep in Redbank Valley Win

OAK RIDGE, Pa. (D9Sports) — Scott Toth and Bryan Layton both went deep and Redbank Valley used a seven-run fifth to put away visiting Union, 13-3, in five innings.

Layton was 3-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and four RBIs and Toth went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and three RBIs for the Bulldogs who also got a 2-for-4 performance with a double, a walk, an RBI and three runs scored from Grayson Harman out of the leadoff spot. Cameron Travis also chipped in two RBIs and run scored while going 1-for-1 with a run scored and two walks, Jonah Henry was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and Nick Smith was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.

Reice Saylor hit a home run for Union and was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs. Luke Salvo also went 2-for-3 for the Golden Knights.

Harman got the win going five innings allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two.

Isaac Yoder took the loss going 2 ⅓ innings allowing five runs, four earned, on three hits and seven walks while striking out four. The Bowsers followed Yoder.

Lucas Bowser went 1 ⅔ innings allowing seven runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out a pair and Luke Bowser pitched a ⅓ of an inning allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out one.

MONITEAU 14, A-C VALLEY 0, 5 INNINGS

EMLENTON, Pa. — Jake Jewart, Nate Sosigian and Hunter Fitzingo combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter, as visiting Moniteau beat A-C Valley, 14-0 in five.

Jewart started and went two innings walking two and striking out six. Sosigian followed and got the win going two innings walking three and striking out four. Fitzingo then pitched one inning striking out two.

The Warriors had 11 hits and also walked seven times.

Jewart was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and two RBIs. Nate Sosigian, Wyatt Geibel, Brice Williams and Chance Nagy also each drove in two runs.

Nate Sosigian was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, Geibel was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored, Williams was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and Nagy was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.

Luke Whitcomb took the loss lasting a ⅓ of an inning allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one. Jeff Ginn went ⅔ of an inning allowing five runs, three earned, despite not giving up a hit. He walked five and struck out two. Izaya Seeker then went four innings giving up two unearned runs on two hits while striking out two.

KARNS CITY 12, KEYSTONE 0

KNOX, Pa. — Karns City broke open a close game with a nine-run seventh inning to get a 12-0 win at Keystone.

Eric Dodd threw a four-hit shutout for the Gremlins going seven innings walking two and striking out 11.

Dodd helped himself out going 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.

Jace Ebbitt was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Markus Lantz also doubled while going 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jacob Weckerly added three RBIs while going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored.

Devin Dunkle took the loss going six innings allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five.
