Sara “Sally” Helen Steffee

Sara “Sally” Helen Steffee, 65, of Rouseville, died Monday, May 15, 2017 at her residence.

Born October 27, 1951 in Oil City, she was the eldest daughter of the late Robert Melat Steffee and Janet Alene McKissick Steffee.

Sally graduated from Oil City High School in 1969. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Clarion University, graduating with honors. While attending Clarion University, she was a member of the Anthropology Club.

Upon graduation from Clarion University, she was employed at the Pennsylvania State Inheritance Tax Bureau in Oil City from 1973 to 1981. From 1985 to 1996 Sally was a close advisor and manager for her parents at Steffee’s Ice Cream in Titusville. In 1998, she was employed as a customer service representative at National City Bank, now PNC Bank from where she retired and became a long-time caregiver for her mother.

Sally was a member of Rouseville United Methodist Church where she was called upon to play the organ for special occasions. Following her ancestors into the Eastern Star, Sally was a Rainbow Worthy Advisor for The Rainbow Girls. She also served on the Board of Directors at Rynd Farm Cemetery.

Sally took Spanish lessons in high school, which sparked her interest in becoming fluent in Spanish. She was a gifted linguist, later studying Portuguese and passed on the interest to her daughter. Sally was an accomplished Equestrian. She owned, rode and trained horses.

Sally was a wonderful mother, sister and aunt. She had great compassion and empathy. She loved helping people and knowing their stories. Her heart was pure and loving. She was a great listener and would always give sound advice. She was very private and in turn respected other’s privacy. She lived her beliefs and moved through the world with honor, grace and love.

Surviving are a daughter Suzanne Marie Zdarko Favano and husband Leandro of San Diego, three sisters, Sharon Liberty and husband Thomas of Sewickley, Sheila Schneider of Titusville and her fiancé Richard Hargenrader of Seneca, and Shelly Steffee Shepard and husband David of New York City; and close family friends Sherry McGrath and husband Kevin of Linesville.

Also surviving are nieces and nephews Brian Liberty and wife Heather of Aliquippa, Nathan Liberty and wife Megan of Cambridge Springs, Haley Schneider and fiancé Dr. Matthew Irwin of Erie, Shane Schneider of Pittsburgh and Marlee Schneider of Los Angeles, Shania Hargenrader and fiancé Andrew Marshal of Sewickley, and Samantha Hargenrader of Pittsburgh; and three great nieces Brooke, Brynlee and Peyton Liberty.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Friday from 6:30 to 9 pm.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 am Saturday with Rev. Brenda Snedden, officiating.

Interment will be in Rynd Farm Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Venango County Humane Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
