Farmer’s Market Vouchers Available in Clarion County

vegetables-2203300_1280CLARION, Pa. – The Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) for senior citizens will be available through the Clarion Area Agency on Aging.

The FMNP, funded under the Pa. Department of Agriculture, provides eligible participants with $20.00 worth of vouchers to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at farmer’s markets.

Nutritionists recommend eating five or more servings of fruit and vegetables every day. Good nutrition is a critical factor in health and well-being of senior citizens.

To be eligible, a person must be 60 years of age or older, live in Clarion County, and meet the annual income guidelines.

Eligibilty for the program is based on household income. Individuals who have a total income for one person of less than $22,311.00 or a couple of less that $30,044.00 income are eligible. Individuals must show proof of age and residency.

Consumers will receive a list of eligible farmer’s markets with their vouchers.

Distribution sites and dates are as follows:

June 5 – New Bethlehem Senior Center, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

June 6 – Knox Senior Center, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

June 12 – Rimersburg Center, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

June 21 – Rimersburg Center, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

June 21 – Allegheny Hills- East Brady, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

June 27 – Main Street Center, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

July 13 – Main Street Center, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

July 19 – Leeper Senior Center, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Each eligible person will receive four vouchers worth $5.00 each, which can be used to purchase produce grown in Pennsylvania or produce which was purchased directly from a farmer in a neighboring state – Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, or West Virginia.

Vouchers can be used through the end of November.

Senior citizens who are unable to pick up their own vouchers must fill out a pre-printed proxy form to send with their proxy. There are no exceptions to this rule. Forms are available at the Clarion Area Agency on Aging.

Care managers from the aging office will be contacting homebound residents.
