CUP Wrestling Fairs Well at Offseason Competition Sunday in Virginia

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Clarion wrestling team enjoyed a successful offseason competition on Sunday, taking a split squad to the University National Freestyle Duals. The Clarion RTC Blue team finished as the top seed in their pool and took third place overall.

The day started with an undefeated start in pool competition, with the RTC Blue squad winning duals against competitors from Buffalo, George Mason and Maryland. RTC Blue dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to the DC Athletic Club in the opening round of the Gold Bracket, and fell again to Mat-Town RTC before beating Patriot WC Gold (George Mason) in the third round.

The duo of Brock Zacherl and Roshaun Cooley went undefeated in pool play, winning all three of their matches. In fact, Zacherl went undefeated for the day with three wins in bracket play, while Cooley went 2-1 in that portion of the schedule. In Clarion’s 8-7 win over Patriot WC Gold, William Miller, Mac Tanner and Dalton Ray also notched victories.
