Western PA CARES for Kids Ninth Annual 5k Race Set for July 15 at Cook Forest

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — The Brookville YMCA Western PA CARES for Kids Ninth Annual 5K race, duathlon, and community walk will be held on Saturday, July 15, at Cook Forest State Park Shelter 2.

The Duathlon consists of a 3.1-mile run, then a 12-mile bike ride, and ends with another two mile run.

Many participate in this event as teams of two or three, but this event can also be done solo.

The 5k is a 3.1-mile race on a mix of trails and paved roads in Cook Forest.  These events are timed with the exception of the community walk.

Those registering by June 21 — the early pre-registration deadline — will receive a free T-shirt.

A free picnic lunch will be provided to all racers and spectators following the event.

Pre-registration and waiver forms are available online at www.carescac.org and at the Brookville YMCA.

Participants are encouraged to raise donations and bring along on race day to be entered to win prizes. Any participant raising more than $75.00 will be eligible for top prizes which include overnight getaways. Participants with highest amount of donations get first pick of all prizes. Checks should be made payable to Brookville YMCA. Money raised will help provide a child friendly coordinated response to child abuse.
