Clarion Elementary Students Participate in Relay Recess, Fundraiser for American Cancer Society

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — The Clarion Elementary School is educating their students on ways to limit the risk of cancer while raising money for the American Cancer Society.

The school’s fundraiser initiative began last week by sending donation envelopes home with students to ask their parents/guardians to donate a minimum of $1.00 to the cause. Last year the school raised over $3,000.00.

This week, students have been engaged in learning activities within their classrooms focusing on nutrition, physical activity, sun safety, and tobacco prevention.

The school added a symbolic aspect to their “Relay Recess” week. A theme has been assigned to each day of the week, which is represented by students and faculty wearing a particular color shirt. For example, Monday was Sun Safety Day, so they wore yellow. The themes continue throughout the week with Nutrition Day, Tobacco Prevention Day, Physical Activity Day, and Cancer Awareness Day respectively.

On Thursday, May 25, during Physical Activity Day, the school will be having their Track and Field Day. Student will have the opportunity to get outside and be active while playing fun games and relay races. The day will conclude with a Relay Recess Presentation by the Clarion Hospital and the school’s check to the American Cancer Society will be presented.

Anyone who would like to contribute to this fundraiser can drop off their monetary gift at the Clarion Elementary School by Thursday, May 25, or mail it to:
