Clarion County YMCA Announces Summer Programming

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — The Clarion County YMCA has announced their summer programs that is for all ages.

MEMBERSHIP SPECIALS

COLLEGE MEMBERSHIP

College students who are home for the summer can purchase a Summer College Membership for $81.00. Membership will be extended through Labor Day. Valid College ID is required.

SAVE 20% ON AN ADULT OR FAMILY MEMBERSHIP

The Clarion County YMCA is offering 20% off your adult or family membership when you join with a friend. Savings is good for as long as you and your friend remain members. FREE CHILD WATCH FOR MEMBERS

Child Watch is available at the YMCA facility for children ages eight months through six years old, while their parents are using YMCA facilities. Parents must remain inside the YMCA. Child watch is FREE for YMCA members and just $2.00 per child/per visit for non-members.

Monday through Friday — 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; Monday through Thursday — 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

*Child Watch will end at 6:30 p.m. if no children are present.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

YMCA SUMMER DAY CAMP

At Summer Day Camp your child will make friends, ride horses, explore nature, and create lifelong memories all under the guidance of awesome Camp Counselors who will care about them and believe in their potential. Summer Day Camp is held weekly throughout the summer 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Camp Coffman, owned and operated by the YMCA. Extended care is available beginning at 6:00 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m. and is included in the Day Camp weekly fee. Bus transportation is provided. SOCCER CLINIC

This 4-week developmental clinic will improve skills from beginner to advanced participants. This clinic is a great warm-up for Summer Soccer. Group sessions will be divided by ages 4—8 and 9—14. The clinic will be held on Saturdays, June 3, 10, 17, and 24 at the Clarion County Park. Registrations are due by May 26. Program Fee: $15.00/member; $25.00/non-member.

SUMMER SOCCER PROGRAM

Summer Soccer is a developmental, participation—based program centered on YMCA core values. This seven-week program includes a mini-tournament. Games are held on Saturdays, July 15—August 26 at the Clarion County Park. Player evaluations will be held Wednesday and Thursday, June 21 and 22 after 5 pm. All first year players and anyone 2nd grade or below are encouraged to attend. The registration deadline is June 26. Program Fee: $20.00/member; $45.00/non-member.

PRIVATE TUMBLING & GYMNASTICS LESSONS

Private tumbling and gymnastics lessons are available through the YMCA and USAG certified coach, Rachel Berry. Please call the YMCA to schedule. The cost is $20.00 per 45 minute session for YMCA members and $30.00 per session for non-members.

PAUL RICHEY MEMORIAL STUDENT CHALLENGE & 1/4 MILE FUN RUN

The PR Run will be held on Saturday, June 10 along the Samuel Justus Trail in Oil City. The 1/4 Mile Fun Run is FREE! The K-12 Student Challenge participants receive a unique medal and are entered to win a Fitbit. TANG SOO DO—MONTHLY

Korean Martial Arts will develop both your mind and body and it will teach you to have a feeling of security through physical fitness, poise, grace, and unarmed self-defense. Most importantly, all participants will develop peace of mind, a sense of self-discipline, and self-confidence. Tang Soo Do is available for ages seven through adult, who may attend together. Classes are held at Joe’s Gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monthly Program Fee: $40.00 for YMCA members/$60.00 for non-members.

SUMMER SWIM LESSONS

Swim lessons are available at the Clarion Borough Pool throughout the summer. All lessons are held with a certified and qualified lifeguard. Your child will need a swim suit and a caring parent or adult nearby. Three sessions will be available during the summer months.

SUMMER COMPETITIVE MINI-SWIM CAMP

Intense technique camp to help you learn how to swim faster and more effectively. Refine the strokes and learn powerful starts and perfectly timed finishes. Become more competitive with explosive turns and underwater dolphin kicking. Open to competitive swimmers with at least one season of competitive swimming experience. Held June 12—15 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Clarion Borough Pool with CUP Head Swim Coach Brehan Kelley; Cost: $90.00 Mini camp is limited to the first 20 to sign up by June 9.

SUMMER GROUP FITNESS CHALLENGE

“Burn It to Earn It” is a group fitness challenge at the YMCA that will allow you to earn points for completing workouts at the YMCA. Your group could win an overnight stay at YMCA Camp Coffman or SIX Pittsburgh Pirates Tickets.

SENIOR WELLNESS PROGRAMMING

SILVERSNEAKERS CLASSIC (Beginners)

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support. Classes offered Monday and Wednesday 10:30 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.; Friday 9:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.; Tuesday & Thursdays 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

SENIOR ON THE BALL (Intermediate)

For the senior who needs a bit more of a challenge. This class includes a variety of muscular strength and range of movement activities all done while seated or using the stability ball. If you prefer, you may sit in a chair rather than on the ball. Mondays and Wednesdays 9:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.

SENIOR STEP UP (Advanced)

For the senior who needs more of a challenge in their workout. Class includes cardio, strength, and flexibility training all in a low-impact class. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

SILVERSNEAKERS YOGA

Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction & mental clarity. Fridays 10:30 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.

ADULT & SENIOR PROGRAMS

NEW YMCA HEALTHY FRIENDS GROUP FITNESS

Improve overall wellness with YMCA Healthy Friends, a supervised fitness program at the YMCA.YMCA Healthy Friends is designed for people who want to begin a regular exercise program, could use guidance and support to become stronger and healthier or for those who have completed hospital supervised therapy and need to stay active. The Healthy Friends Group will meet for 30 minutes a day, three days a week. Schedule your 30 minute workout Monday, Wednesday & Friday between 7:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Our wellness coach will monitor and record your heart rate and blood pressure and provide support during your workout. Monthly Fee: $15.00/members; $40.00/non-members

HEALTHY FRIENDS REHABILITATION PROGRAM

In partnership with Clarion Hospital and Clarion Rehabilitation. Individual programming is available for clients who have sustained an injury or illness and need supervised care. Benefits people having completed a supervised therapy program. Offered between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Monthly Fee: $20.00/members; $45.00/non-members

CARDIAC REHAB PHASE III

In partnership with UPMC Northwest, this program is available for anyone having completed a hospital supervised Phase I and II cardiac program OR for those with a doctor referral for diabetes, pre-diabetes, fibromyalgia, hypertension, etc. Offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 7:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Y. Our tech will monitor and record your heart rate, pulse-ox and blood pressure while you exercise. Monthly Fee: $20.00/members; $45.00/non-members

SILVER GAME DAYS

Silver Game Days are social events for seniors held twice a month at the Y. Bring a deck of cards or your favorite board game, plus a snack to share and enjoy the afternoon with friends. Registration is not required for this program. Just show up and join the fun. There is plenty of space so BRING A FRIEND! Game day is held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Game Days: June 6, 20, Thursday, July 6, 18, August 1, 15, and 29.
