Four Injured in Eldred Twp. Crash

ELDRED TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Marienville-based State Police say a three-vehicle crash occurred on Sunday afternoon on State Route 36 at its intersection with State Route 949, in Eldred Township, Jefferson County.

State police say around 3:47 p.m. on May 28, 83-year-old Frances Gathers, of Sligo, was pulling out at a stop sign located at Route 949, intending to travel north on Route 949 and drove her 2017 Ford Focus into the path of 28-year-old Matthew S. Ross, of Sigel, who was traveling north on State Route 36 in a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. The vehicles made initial impact at the intersection.

Ross’s Chrysler then collided with a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 32-year-old Matthew P. Gilbert, of Sigel, which was stopped at the stop sign on Route 949 in the southbound lane.

Gathers was transported to a local hospital. The extent of her injuries are unknown.

She was using a seat belt.

Ross and two passengers — 21-year-old Ariane J. Howe and 22-year-old Ashley C. Ross, both of Sigel — suffered injuries of unknown severity.

Neither Ross nor his two passengers were using seat belts.

It is unknown if a third passenger in Ross’ vehicle — a two-year-old female, of Sigel — was injured.

A child safety seat was in use.

Gilbert and a passenger — 21-year-old Karly G. Reinsel, of Sigel — were not injured.

Both occupants were using seat belts.

Gathers was charged with a traffic violation.

Jefferson County EMS assisted at the scene.
