Luplow Homers but Curve Fall in 11 at Bowie

BOWIE, Md. – The Altoona Curve dropped the series finale against the Bowie Baysox, 7-6, in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium.

The Baysox (39-27) walked off against the Curve (30-24) for the second time in three games.

Jordan Luplow hit a solo homer in the game, his team-best 13th of the season, setting a new career high. It was his fifth in the last seven games, and he now sits third in the Eastern League in home runs.

Bowie ended the game with a two-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eleventh by Erick Salcedo against Altoona reliever Montana DuRapau (Loss, 2-2).

The Baysox opened a 4-0 lead in the first inning, chasing Curve starter Brandon Waddell after just two outs recorded.

The Curve answered in the top of the second inning. Pablo Reyes hit a two-run single to get the Curve on the board, and Kevin Newman followed with an RBI double to close the gap to one.

The next batter, Kevin Kramer, evened the score with a sacrifice fly.

Luplow clubbed his home run in the third inning to put the Curve ahead, 5-4.

Bowie tied the score in the bottom of the fourth with a home run by Cedric Mullins to center field.

Newman hit his third double of the game in the seventh inning, and Connor Joe brought him in to score with a single to give the Curve a 6-5 lead.

The Baysox against answered immediately in the bottom of the inning. With two outs and a 2-2 count, Aderlin Rodriguez hit a solo homer, his fourth hit of the game, against Sean Keselica (Blown Save, 2).

The game stayed even until the bottom of the eleventh. Keselica rebounded to finish with three innings pitched, allowing one run on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

After Waddell left the game in the first, Austin Coley took over to toss 5.1 innings, allowing one run on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Bowie starter Brandon Barker allowing five runs over five innings on eight hits. Lucas Long pitched from the eighth through the tenth without allowing a hit. Tim Berry (Win, 1-0) pitched a scoreless top of the eleventh.

Newman finished the game 3-for-6 with three doubles and a run scored. Jin-De Jhang had two singles.

Luplow went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two walks.

Curve pitching combined to strand 14 Baysox baserunners in the game.

After a day off on Monday, the Curve open a three-game road series in Harrisburg on Tuesday. Right-hander J.T. Brubaker (2-2, 4.53) will be on the mound for the Curve. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at FNB Field in Harrisburg, Pa.
