CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — A Strattanville man faces fleeing police and related charges after a high-speed chase on May 24.

According to court documents, Clarion-based State Police filed criminal charges against 24-year-old
Thomas Ray Elder Jr., of Strattanville.

According to a criminal complaint filed, Elder was operating a 2013 Suzuki motorcycle at a high rate of speed — between 60 and 70 miles per hour — along Staab Road around 1:22 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24.

The complaint states that Trooper Cloak, of PSP Clarion, was stopped at an intersection with Staab Road in a trailer court after a previous incident; his emergency lights were still activated. Trooper Cloak saw that the vehicle didn’t have a license plate, and the operator was not wearing a helmet. Trooper Cloak tried to stop the operator, but the operator kept going at a high rate of speed and then left the dirt and gravel road and entered the woods.

Trooper Cloak was joined by Corporal Hageter and Trooper Bellman. They followed the motorcycle tracks leading into the field, and Elder was soon located, according to the complaint.

Elder’s driver’s license is suspended for a previous DUI conviction. The motorcycle didn’t have a valid inspection sticker or valid insurance, the complaint continues.

He faces the following charges:

– Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Officer, Misdemeanor 2
– Driving Unregistered Vehicle, Summary
– Use Improper Class Of License, Summary
– Driving License Suspended/Revoked Pursuant to Section 3802/1547B1, Summary
– Operating Vehicle W/O Required Financial Responsibility, Summary
– Driving at Safe Speed, Summary
– Not Wearing Proper Headgear On Motorcycle, Summary
– Careless Driving, Summary
– Operating Vehicle W/O Valid Inspection, Summary

Elder is scheduled to be arraigned at 9:45 a.m. on June 8 in front of Magisterial District Judge Duane L. Quinn.
