William V. Kelly

William Vernon Kelly, 66, of Sanford, N.C., formerly of Pleasantville, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017, at Duke University Medical Center, in Durham, N.C.

Bill was born in Franklin on Jan. 30, 1951, to the late Walter D. and Ruth Beebe Kelly.

He graduated from Cranberry High School, Class of 1968.

Bill served in the U.S. Coast Guard, from 1970-78, as a machinery technician, E-5/2nd Class Petty Officer.

While residing in Pleasantville, he worked most of that time at Cytemp Specialty Steel.

From 1982-2003, he was a Pennsylvania Deputy Wildlife Conservation Officer, with 21 years of meritorious service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #754, and also a member of the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department.

Until his death, Bill was employed at Habitat for Humanity, where he was also a member of the selection committee.

He was a very active member of Center United Methodist Church, in Sanford, N.C.

His interests included photography — in which he won several awards — golfing, geocaching, and was proud of the numerous mission trips he had taken to work with others in need.

Bill is survived by his wife, Eileen Vorse Kelly, of Sanford, N.C., whom he married on June 27, 2009; daughter Krista Kelly (Terry Dreihaup), of Leeper; step-daughter Pamela Fleming (Robert), of Jamestown, N.Y.; stepson James Sutton (Rose), of Dunkirk, N.Y.; three granddaughters, Kaylee Madden, of Grove City, Katelynn Madden, of Rimersburg, and Amaya Jenkins, of Jamestown, N.Y.; two sisters, Sandra Slagle (Jim), of Oil City, and Cynthia Rossman (Larry), of Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Chapman; and a brother, Walter Dennis Kelly.

A memorial service will be held for friends and family on Saturday, at Center United Methodist Church, at 4 p.m., in Sanford, N.C. A private burial will be held at a later date.
