Driver Injured in Route 66 Rollover Crash After Swerving to Miss Deer

HOWE TWP. Pa. (EYT) — Marienville-based State Police say a 79-year-old man was injured in a rollover crash on June 9 after he swerved to miss a deer on State Route 66 in Howe Township, Forest County.

Around 12:50 p.m., John W. Montgomery, of Kane, was traveling north on State Route 66 near Watson Farm Road when he swerved to miss a deer on the roadway.

Montgomery’s 2012 Ford Escape exited the east side of the roadway and traveled up and embankment before crashing into a patch of small trees and shrubbery.

The vehicle continued traveling approximately 228 feet until it hit a drainage culvert and rolled over, traveling an additional 60 feet where it came to a final rest on its wheels partially on the roadway.

Montgomery was transported by Clarion Hospital EMS to the Clarion Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Marienville Volunteer Fire Company and Farmington Township Volunteer Company assisted at the scene.
