Clarion County YMCA Announces Youth Summer Soccer Program

CLARION, Pa. — Summer Soccer will return to the Clarion County Park in July for Clarion County youth. The seven week program has been a popular summer sport for children in pre-k through 8th grade over the last decade. Last summer over 300 youth participated.

The Summer Soccer Program focuses on learning soccer skills, teamwork and YMCA values in a Christian environment where everyone plays. The season begins July 15 and runs through August 26. Children will practice on weekdays and play games on Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Most games will be done by 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

“We are excited for the soccer season to begin,” said Jesse Kelley, Clarion County YMCA Branch Director. “Soccer is a fun sport that provides plenty of heart-healthy exercise. Our program provides a great place for families to gather on Saturdays. Many friendships have formed at YMCA Summer Soccer practices and games.”

Player evaluations will be held at the Clarion County Park on June 21 and 22 after 5:00 p.m. for all first-year players and anyone in second grade or below. This is not a try-out. It only helps the Y select teams.

All players will receive a Soccer T-shirt with registration.

The cost of the program is $20.00 for members and $45.00 for non-members. Registration is due by June 26 so that teams can be formed. Late registrations will be charged an extra $5.00.

The YMCA has used cleats and shin guards for sale for $2.00 each, or you may swap a used pair for free. All children will need cleats, shin guards, sunblock, and a water bottle for games and practices.

For more information, please contact the Clarion County YMCA at 814-764-3400. Registration forms can be printed at www.clarioncountyymca.org/resources.
