PITTSBURGH (EYT)– If there is one thing Pittsburghers know how to do, it’s throwing a sports championship party.
And the city didn’t disappoint Wednesday afternoon as an estimated 650,000 people turned out for the 2017 Stanley Cup Champions Pittsburgh Penguins championship parade that wound its way through downtown Pittsburgh ending with stage and celebration at Point State Park.
ExploreClarion went Facebook Live from the parade.
As would be expected, many local fans made their way to the City of Champions for this special day.
EYT Sports Editor Chris Rossetti had a chance to catch up with some of them both in person and via social media.
RANDY WOLBERT, SEAN WOLBERT AND SEAN MCLAUGHLIN
These three Clarion County natives made their way down to Grant Street to watch the parade and then headed over to the Point to see what the action was like there. Rossetti caught up with them on their way back to their car.
TYLER BOWEN AND SAGE DRAKE
Tyler Bowen and Sage Drake are both headed into their sophomore years at East Forest High School, and both didn’t want to miss the festivities Wednesday. They staked out a spot near the stage in Point State Park and talked to Rossetti after the festivities.
RICH ESPOSITO AND JULIANNA ESPOSITO
Rich Esposito and his daughter, Julianna, were at the start of the parade and shared a pair of photos.
NIKKI MCGILL, MORGAN SHAW, TANNER MCGILL, JOANE BEACH, DAWSON BEACH, DWIGHT DICKENS, DAN DICKENS, AMANDA DICKENS AND DANNY DICKENS
This group got a prime parade-watching location from the top of the parking garage on the Boulevard of the Allies and took a second to snap a group photo.
The two McGills, Shaw, the two Beaches and Dwight Dickens are all from Franklin while the other three Dickens live in Greentree.
“My favorite moment of the playoffs was the Crosby-Subban running conflict, because, you know, Subban had bad breath :).” Nikki McGill tweeted.
SIERRA CROSSETTI
Crossetti is from Charleston, S.C., but now lives in Clarion. She had a good view of Sidney Crosby with the Stanley Cup that she shared with us.
“I would say (my favorite part of the playoffs) was the teamwork between all the guys on the team,” Crossetti tweeted. “You could really tell they all loved playing together even through the losses!”
