Forest Area School District Holds Commencement Ceremonies, Announces Valedictorians, Salutatorians

FOREST COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) — Forest Area School District announced their Class of 2017 valedictorians and salutatorians at their recent commencement ceremonies.

West Forest Ceremony

The West Forest Class of 2017 Commencement Ceremony was held at the West Forest High School gymnasium, on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Basil Huffman was the keynote speaker.

Sarah Humes Named Valedictorian of West Forest Class of 2017

Sarah

Sarah Humes is the daughter of Shawna and David Humes of Tionesta.

Sarah will be attending Edinboro University with a major in Nursing and a minor in Forensic Science.

Sarah is a member of National Honor Society, Student Historians, Envirothon, and Secretary of the West Forest Class of 2017. Sarah received the Girl Scouts Bronze Award.

She participated in Book Club, Cheerleading, and Yearbook. She was on Homecoming Court.

Andrew Schwab Named Salutatorian of West Forest Class of 2017

Andrew

Andrew Schwab is the son of Tammy and James Schwab of Tidioute.

In the fall, Andrew will be attending Clarion University as an Ecology and Evolutionary Biology major.

He was a member of National Honor Society, Student Historians, Envirothon, Ski Club, and Foreign Language Club. He was president of the West Forest Class of 2017 and the West Forest Student Council.

He participated in soccer, basketball, and baseball. He was elected homecoming king and was a member of prom court.

East Forest Ceremony

The East Forest Class of 2017 Commencement Ceremony was held at the East Forest High School gymnasium, on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 6:30 p.m.

EF 2017 Senior Class

Mr. Michael Gatesman, East Forest Class of 1973, was the Distinguished Alumni guest speaker.

Emma Cussins Named Valedictorian of East Forest Class of 2017

Emma

Emma Cussins is the daughter of Andrea and Daniel Cussins of Marienville.

She has been accepted to Clarion University to major in Special Education.

Emma was the treasurer of the Class of 2017, Top 5 Academic Student, member of National Honor Society, FCCLA, Drama Club, Yearbook Club, Student Council, Foreign Language Club, Ski Club, Varsity Club, and Mini Relay for Life Club.

She received many awards including Sportsman of the Year, Girl Scout Gold Award, Woodman of the World History Award, English Award, Lena Chips Good Citizenship Award, and the Good Citizen Award given by Senator Scott Hutchinson.

She was awarded the Veteran’s Club Scholarship, Lion’s Club Scholarship, EF Sports Booster Scholarship, EF Faculty Scholarship, Arthur VanNort Scholarship, EF Alumni Association Scholarship, Carbaugh Memorial Scholarship and the Belle Carson Randall Scholarship.

She was on both the Homecoming Court and Prom Court.

She is a Girl Scout, Nursing Home volunteer, and Special Olympics volunteer.

Cheyenne Carbaugh Named Salutatorian of East Forest Class of 2017

Cheyenne Carbaugh is the daughter of William and Aimee Carbaugh of Clarington.

She has been accepted to Indiana University of Pennsylvania for Nursing.

Cheyenne was Student Council President, Class of 2017 President, Student Historians President, and member of the National Honor Society and Varsity Club. She was in the Top 5 Academic Students. She received the Presidential Academic Gold Award, Bausch & Lomb Science Award, John Philip Sousa Award, and the Good Citizenship Award.

Cheyenne was awarded the IUP Sutton Scholarship, Forest County Township Association Scholarship, Katie M. Edmondson Scholarship, Brookville Hospital Scholarship, Carbaugh Memorial Scholarship, Alumni Association Scholarship, Veteran’s Club Scholarship, EF Faculty Scholarship, and the Lion’s Club Scholarship.
